Food, Love & FoodLove

I have such a hard time remembering what I've been up to!  I can't seem to organize my thoughts as well as I used to and sometimes I feel so lost!  I finally had time to sit down tonight and upload photos from my camera and now that I look at them I feel like - I'm watching Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on ABCFamily and getting distracted.  I love this movie! -So I was saying the photos are helping me to put things in chronological order.

I forgot that last week Saturday we went to the FOOD FEST on campus at BYU.  It was so much fun!  We took my nephews, Kamani, Tuto, and Maihe along with us and we had a blast!  I love being an Aunty!  I had so much fun watching them go on the kiddie rides.  I felt like I was doing it again as a child.

I was so proud of my nephew Kamani because he wasn't scared and climbed to the top of the tower.  He was racing against a girl in the green shirt.  She beat him. Lol.  But this was his very first time EVER climbing it.  He doesn't get out much...

I love my boys

Quality Family Time :)

Here's another one of the kids on the ride that goes on and on in circles.  Tim and I were both glad that we didn't have to accompany them on this ride.  We can't handle all the spinning ah... we're getting so old.  It's not as easy to take the nephews out and about anymore because I'm a mommy now, but I'm so happy that my hubby supports me!  I love spending time with these guys!

Food fest was great.  Towards the end of the night there was a latin band.  They played well but the singing... hmm... it was nice but not as good as the playing.  A lot of the students got up and danced salsa.  There was even a male on male couple! Hahaha!  They were just fooling around but I was worried about them getting in trouble from the BYUH-SA.  Amz volunteered to hold Nainoa so Tim and I could dance, but the hubster didn't want to.  No big deal, I pulled my nephews and tried to make them dance with me.  Funny little boys.  The highlight for food that night was the PO'E from the tahitian club.  It was ONOLICIOUS!!!  Yes, three exclamation points for the Tahitian Club.

This past week we've been doing the usual, Haleiwa, Cholo's, Coffee Gallery, and a little surfing here and there.  I surfed at sunset the other day when it was tiny tiny tiny.  I was surfing with a bunch of Sunset Elementary kids.  Man those kids are such little rippahs!  There was one really cute, cocky but cute boy who was talking about the airs he was pulling and about how he's being trained, and then they were talking to some guy who was my age asking him if he used to go to Sunset Elem.  So funny because it reminded me of when I was a kid and how I thought I was so cool.  Eh!

The other night Tim and I made some YUM food for dinner.  We made Kalua Pig Tacos on Spinach Tortillas.  They were delicious!

Last night we went to town to pick up my mom and her mom from the airport.  It's nice to see my grandma again.  I haven't seen her in years, and I haven't ever really spent one-on-one time with her.  I'm excited to be able to do that.  All of her great grandkids call her Tutu-Nana and she is the coolest G-ma/TutuNana in the world.

Last but not least.  I'm thankful that I'm an Aunty!  I love all of my nephews and nieces.  They are so special and precious and I'm so lucky to be a part of their lives.

Monday Morning Madness

I'm chillin' and relaxin' CHILLAXIN after a crazy busy morning.  Holy Moly!  This leftover Indian Style Curry from last night with yogurt is YUM!  Definitely helping me while I chill out and blah blah blog about this morning's adventure.

How did I get so lucky and trick Tim into thinking he's lucky to be with me.  I dunno. I dunno.  But I love it!  I definitely scored big time!  He cooks sooooo good!

This morning was hectic but we got everything done for Nainoa's passport and the renewal of my own.  Frickin stupid guy at walmart (even though he was really really nice, ok he's not really stupid but still)  He took a bad passport photo and so we had to leave the post office and go to BYU to take new ones.  Unfortunately BYU's passport services were closed for the day due to "technical difficulties" FRACK!  So we got back into the car and drove to Long's in Haleiwa.  We finally got back to the post office and it took FOREVER to get everything finished.  There were a ton of people behind us in line and I only felt a tiny bit sorry for them.  There was only one person working the front desk at the time.  An elderly sister missionary was one of the people waiting in line behind us with 3 big trash bags full of priority mail boxes.  When we finished Nainoa's stuff I went to the back of the room to organize my renewal papers.  The little old lady threw a fit when it was her turn because the nice lady at the desk told her very nicely that it would be better if her boxes were taped shut. I was thinking "DUH! They can't be mailed flat rate if they aren't FLAT."  This pissed the little old lady off and she, after already having emptied all the contents of her bag onto the counter, had to place each and every box back into the trash bags.  The lady at the desk was really nice and I felt sorry for her because she kept trying to offer suggestions to the old lady, but kept getting cut off.  The old lady kept saying, "I don't understand any of this!"  And when lady at the desk said "would you like me to explain it to you?" Little old lady said, "I know that already" and, "Well obviously I did SOMETHING wrong so I'll just go and fix it and then come back.  But I don't understand any of this.  LoL.  Poor old lady was so flustered because she had packed, poorly I might add, at least 10 boxes, waited in line for maybe 20 minutes and then sent herself away.  Auwe!

Oooh! I forgot to mention that before we left home this morning Nainoa gave his mommy and daddy a special treat!  I was changing his diaper when all of a sudden a magical stream of water burst out and went straight onto his daddy.  I think my son is not going to have any problems with aiming when it's time to potty train. Hahaha.  He could've easily shot me because I was right in front of him.  Instead he shot his dad who was sitting in the computer chair next to the changing table.  Here's a pic of our setup to help you get a better idea of what happened.
Nainoa was on the changing table , I was standing over him and Tim sitting off on the side.  Good boy Nainoa!  Nice aim!

Unfortunately, I took to long to put a new diaper on baby because I was laughing so hard at Tim getting shot... Nainoa made a poopy on the changing table, it wasn't a huge one, but still... I guess that's what I get for laughing so hard at Tim. Bahahahha!  It was worth it!

So now Tim's out surfing and I'm finishing up my curry and going to attempt a nap.  Today is the beginning of my "Training."  Tim's going to be my personal trainer and whip me back into shape when he gets home.  I don't have to change my diet to much, but I can't eat rice anymore after 5pm.  We'll see how it goes!  I think I'll take some before and after pictures...  I'm just trying to lose 10ish pounds before Christmas.  Ah... We'll see...

Expecting Part 1

I didn't post any pictures or keep a journal from when I was pregnant.  I really wish that I had.  So while I still can, and while it's as fresh as it will ever be in my memory I'm going to organize and post them.  Here goes.

I found out I was pregnant around Christmas while we were in Japan.  I was getting nauseous and really tired at work AND different foods were starting to make me feel sick!  But I never, not once, threw up my whole pregnancy.  The only time I threw up was while I was in labor.  On the way home from work one night I bought a test.  Everything was in Japanese but I could understand some of the directions.  You pee on the stick, let it sit for 2 or 3 minutes and then you are given the result.
Unfortunately the result is in Japanese.  But this didn't occur to me until AFTER I had peed on it.  Tim had just returned that morning from Australia and was in the kitchen cooking dinner.  I didn't tell him that I was taking a test, but he already knew that I was a little worried about being knocked up.  I was so nervous!  After 10 minutes I told him, "Honey, I took a test today." Him - "What did it say?"  Me- "I don't know."  Him - "Why don't you know?"  Me- "I just took it, it's still in the bathroom I haven't checked it yet.  Will you check it?"  So Tim went in and read the result.  Luckily some of the result was written in Hiragana.  We found out that I was in fact pregnant.

We didn't say anything.  We sat at the kitchen table lost in thought pushing our dinner around on our plates.

At the time I remember that I felt fear more than anything else.  Would I be a good mom?  What would my family say?  What does the future hold for me?  For us?  I was afraid.  I wasn't sad or disappointed but I can't say that I was ecstatic (at first) at the news.  Tim assured me that we'd be okay and that we were going to stick together and after hearing that I felt better.  Less fear.  I was still worried about what we'd tell my family.  He hadn't met my parents yet.  We were also worried about telling his family so we decided to wait until after the first trimester.  I had to change my lifestyle drastically to help my baby grow but I was happy to do it.  It was a little hard when everyone was partying over Christmas and New Years and it got a little boring but of course I don't regret it!  Tim accidentally hinted to all of his friends at a Christmas party that I was pregnant and over new years everyone was suspicious and watching to see how we behaved.  We went snowboarding for New Years and I made sure to be extra careful not to fall.  We ended up telling Lu and JP and they were really happy for us.

Work was fun and my contract was winding down to its end.  I had a lot less energy and grew tired before work was over.  I couldn't stay out or stay up late anymore.  The girls I worked with were the first to find out the results after Timmy found out.  I took my pee stick to work and showed it to Mio and Tiare just to make sure that it was a positive result. Hahaha!

Tim and I flew to Australia at the end of my contract.  I was tired all the time and strong stink smells made me nauseous.  I didn't want to do NOTHING.  Hahaha Anything.  Tim turned into a Nazi and made sure I ate all the right things and didn't eat any of the wrong things.  I got to meet a lot of his close friends for the first time and I'm sure I gave them a bad impression because the whole time we were hanging out I wanted to sleep and I couldn't stop myself from yawning.  Tim's cousins were suspicious about it all but we couldn't tell them until AFTER we told his parents and we had already decided to wait until the end of the first trimester.  We ended up telling Matt (Tim's brother and best friend) and he was so happy for us.  He also agreed we should wait to tell our parents.  We visited Tim's doctor and took another prego test to make sure and he said I was, "very pregnant."  Usually the test takes a few minutes until you can see the result but he said right away that the result showed up!

I'm a procrastinator.  We had our first appointment on Feb 9.  The picture below was after our first doctors appointment.  I'm not trying to show off.  I just want to be able to remember that at one point in my life I used to be skinny(ish).  Who knows if I will ever be that size again...  And I want my son, and husband to know... I sacrificed my body for you!  Hahaha but I don't regret it.  No not one bit.
It was February 9, 2011.  They told me I was 12 wks prego and we got to listen to our baby's heartbeat for the first time.  It really is the most beautiful sound in the world.  Sometimes when he's sleeping I put my head near his chest to listen to it and I remember the first time I heard it.   It was in that moment, I feel, I became a mother.  In his tiny, perfect, healthy heartbeat I began to feel the love that only a mother feels.  Since then it has grown more everyday, it has no limits and knows no end and no beginning because it has always been inside me, I just didn't know it yet.

So then, after the appointment, we went into waikiki, parked at the zoo, took the above picture and had a little surf to celebrate.  At night when we got home I wrote a little poem about our little baby's heartbeat.  I posted it on the blog, "Your Heart" but tried to keep it as vague as possible since we weren't putting it out there yet that I was pregnant.  I hadn't told my parents yet and I was really scared to tell them too.  For obvious reasons if you know me and my family.

The end of a new day and new love.  2.9.11

This was our first ultra sound.  We had it a few days after our first checkup on Feb 14, VALENTINES DAY!  I was shocked and amazed to see that the little person inside me was already so developed!  I didn't expect to see the form of a little person but there he was.  My beautiful little love.

It was around this time, maybe earlier than this that we decided we would give our baby bump a nickname.  I really liked calling it my little "nugget."  That stuck and we ended up calling him NUGGIE.

Tim was supposed to leave that week for New York and we were debating about how and when we were going to tell my parents that I was pregnant.  It wasn't easy but we sat down together and told them together.  My mom already knew because of her special intuition.  She said she could tell because I was glowing.  She actually approached me about it a week before we sat down with my dad.  It was hard and my dad was really sad but he said the important thing was to take care of my health and the baby's health and "move forward."  I love my parents for their love and support.  I'm so lucky.

A few days later Tim left to New York to play rugby and to do some networking.  The original plan was that I would go with him, but I decided to stay in Hawaii where I could get on Med-quest and have insurance.  I met up with him in Florida then flew to NYC with him.  In Florida I started getting really itchy all day long.  It was terrible!  I thought it was because of the pregnancy.  But I finally figured out that it was because of a bug bite.  I tried to walk through some bushes in the early twilight because I didn't want to walk around the gate to get back to my girlfriend Jeneka's appartment.  Bad idea!  Bugs, snakes and who knows what else live in the bushes!  Duh!  I should've realized I wasn't in Hawaii and that the bushes are more dangerous in FL.  Haha.  I loved being with my sweetheart but I HATED New York.  It stunk and there were people smoking everywhere and I didn't feel safe. Tim lived in an apartment on a really busy one way street.  At the end of his street there were several fire stations and hospitals.  We were hearing sirens all day and all night and there were people hanging out on the street fighting and yelling at all hours.   I think I would've appreciated NYC more if it wasn't so frickin cold and if I wasn't pregnant.  I spent a lot of days lying inside watching desperate housewives on netflix.  I did get to go to 3 musicals on Broadway Memphis, La Cage, and my favorite Mary Poppins!!!  It was the most beautiful, magical, special play.  We had a good 3 weeks together and then I had to go home and we were apart for a month.

I was visiting the Kapiolani Women's Outpatient clinic.  I didn't realize how the healthcare system worked so I kept visiting the clinic and seeing several different doctors.  They were all nice, but no one remembered me or knew who I was.  I took me a long time to figure out I could switch doctors.  I really wanted a more personal experience.  My appointments were short.  I gave a sample of shishi each time and the doctors answered questions we had.  My favorite part about those appointments were listening to Nainoa's heart.  I really looked forward to all of my appointments because in between those appointments I would wonder about my baby and hope that he was ok and growing well.

On March 30 we had an ultra sound to find out the baby's sex.  Tim was away in NY so my girlfriends Crimson, Kiele, and Kei came with me.  My ultra sound tech wasn't very friendly and wouldn't let everyone come in at once.  We were so excited and Tim was so happy when he found out we were going to have a BOY!

Poor little guy was getting his face smashed by the placenta.

To be continued in Part II....

First Encounter

My first encounter with Pinterest and this is what I stumbled upon.  (Btw I almost just typed stumpled upon.  Man... so Fob!)  If you aren't laughing by the time you are done looking at this pic then you probably didn't get it.  Keep looking!

And now I'm going to get back to exploring the new and exciting world (to me at least) of PINTEREST

A Month of Giving Thanks

My girlfriend Jenn is starting a gratitude journal, and several other friends on facebook are posting one thing everyday that they are thankful for.  I want to play too!

Today is the 4th so I'm going to have to do some catching up first.  And I'll probably just add on to this list everday.

I'm thankful:

1.  For Love.  I'm thankful to be able to give and receive love.  The love I have for my husband is so special and then the love I have for my son is an entirely new and amazing feeling.

2.  For my Timmy.  So patient, so loving, so much fun!  He really is my best friend and I'm so lucky we found each other.

3.  My son Nainoa.  I'm so lucky to be his mommy.  There are so many things I could say about him.  He's such a special boy.

4.  My dear friend Leo.  It's her birthday today!  She's one crazy lady and I love her so much.  She's the original "Leo-tard"  Two years ago on her birthday we all went out to a club in Japan dressed in Leotards.   We were Leo's Tards.

5.  Kahuku Football.  I haven't cared much for football in a long time, but when it comes to Kahuku... Once a red raider ALWAYS a red raider.  Go Big Red!  We were watching the game Friday night and the 2nd half was so exciting.  I was on Facebook at the same time laughing at, commenting, and liking everyone's status updates on the game.

6.  Rainbows.  They are such a beautiful reminder to me of how much God loves us.

MTWTh

Monday. Halloween.

Tuesday.  My nephew Kamani turned 9.  We went to town in the morning to get Tim's social security business taken care of, we stopped at Ala Moana to get some coffee from Honolulu Coffee Co. (2nd best coffee on Oahu), then we stopped in Haleiwa because Nainoa was hungry, and then I got to surf!  I went out to Freddie's by V-land while Tim and Nainoa sat on the beach under a tree.  Nainoa also put his feet into the ocean for the first time.  It was a beautiful afternoon, the sun was setting and the waves weren't to big.

Wednesday.  Went surfing AGAIN!  This time, Tim dropped me off at v-land an went for a drive to haleiwa with Nainoa.  Their first outing all alone without mommy!  The waves were small and inconsistent but I had a good time and got a good workout.  It rained a lot while I was in the water but at one point it stopped, the sun started to shine and then there was the most GLORIOUS rainbow just sitting right on the ocean.  It was so beautiful and perfect.

I took a well needed nap in the afternoon.  I was so tired, but Nainoa woke up and needed a feed so I fed him and then he fell asleep on me because I fell asleep.  We slept like that for an hour.  We visited Aunty Laurie in the afternoon then had dinner at Kahuku Grill. YUM.

Thursday.  Today is Thursday!  I'm catching up on our blog, and catching up with The Vampire Diaries, and rewatching the latest episode of Revenge.   I knew that Tyler guy was gay!  Well baby is crying woke up from his nap.  Back to work!

I don't think I posted this.  It's a picture of Nainoa the day he got his shots.  I'm so behind on our blog...
He's getting so big! Ah... I love him.

Trick-O-Treat Smell My Feet!

October was such a fun month!  I think I had the best Halloween night ever since being a little kid and I'm feeling so pumped and excited for the rest of the holidays that I get to spend with MY family for the rest of my life!  We went trick-o-treating on Halloween night with my sister Larissa and her kids in Kahuku.  After going there I'm not going back to Laie to trick-o-treat.  Laie = waste time!  They give better candy in Kahuku AND they really get into it.  There were more than 10 houses that were really decked out in Halloween Decor.  Some had mini haunted houses that you had to walk through to get to the candy bowl and they aren't greedy with adults either!  Several families offered candy to me and Tim!  Yum!

Me, Maka(orange hair), Timo, Rissa, Maihe (green) Tuto, Nava, Kamani and my Timmy texting.
You can't see Nainoa because he was in his stroller.  He was dressed as Bambam, and Tim and I were Barney and Betty Rubble.

I went over to Rissa's in the morning to help the kids get ready for school.  Kahuku Elementary has a mini parade for their students so everyone can show off their costumes.  I made Kamani's skeleton costume with some paper printouts I found online.  I glued them to some cardboard and we safety pinned them to his black t-shirt and pants.  It was such a last minute costume that I decided to do for him the night before Halloween.  Thank you google I love you!  Tuto dressed up as Nephi from the Book of Mormon.  Aunty amber made his shield and I helped put together his sword.  We had some extra material lying around the house that we used for his tunic.

The twins (Maka & Maihe) were supposed to be treasure trolls.  I found some hair spray paint at Long's that I randomly bought earlier the previous day so we decided to go with it.  We found these little lights and put them on yarn around the kids necks to hang by their piko.  Maihe didn't like the costume much and didn't want to pose for pictures.  Rissa (my sister) drew weird symbols on their arms and faces to complete the look.  Maihe was being a real grump!  He was worried the other kids wouldn't think it was cool.  Both boys said they wanted a sword and shield like Tuto.

I got him to smile for this picture because I told him if he didn't I wouldn't make him a sword and shield. Hahaha it worked!

My dad took the twins to preschool while Rissa, Nava, Nainoa and I walked down to the elementary school to watch the parade.  Not trying to make anyone feel bad, but man, it's so shame to be one of the kids who's not wearing a costume.  I'm speaking from experience.  I'm glad I could help my nephews avoid this shame.  Haha.
After that I went home and worked on shields for the twinnies.  In the end they all ended up being the sons of Helaman (from the BoM).  Kamani didn't like his bones and ended up wearing glow sticks for his costume.  I helped him duck tape it to his costume.

The little princess Nava was Minnie Mouse with wings.  She got her dress from when they were in NZ and I let her use my Minnie ears from Tokyo Disney.

Here's the Army of Helaman with Minnie

Saturday's Warrior

We got a ton of Candy and a really good exercise in!  Nainoa didn't get any candy.  His cousin Kamani said to him, "It's okay Nainoa you're not the only little baby that doesn't have teeth, don't worry you'll get them someday and then you can have candy too."  He's such a sweetheart!

Tuto also had some really cute things to say to Nainoa.  He was leading the pack and all his brothers and sister were following him from house to house.  I was so proud of him.  He came up to Nainoa and said, "Nainoa you wanna see hot to trick-o-treat?  WATCH AND LEARN!"  Then he'd run off back to the front of everyone again.

My little Bambam.  He slept most of the time but woke up towards the end to give his dad his grumpy  face.

The kids were so funny.  I wanted them to take a picture in someone's yard and instead of just looking at the camera they all wanted to pose. Haha little cuties.

Nainoa and his daddy.  Barney & little Bambam

Halloween was our little families first holiday together and I can't wait for the rest of the holidays to come.  All of our costumes were made very last minute and it turned out better than I expected.  Next year I will plan ahead.  Happy Halloween!
